Chug, chug, chug. Puff, puff, puff. Ding-Dong,Ding-Dong. The little train rumbled over the tracks.

轧轧，轧轧，轧轧。呜呜，呜呜，呜呜。叮咚，叮咚，小火车隆隆地驶过铁轨。

She was a happy little train. Her cars were filled with toy animals. Giraffes with long necks, Teddy bears with almost no necks at all, and even a baby elephant.

她是一辆开心的小火车。她的车厢里载满了动物玩具，有脖子长长的长颈鹿，脖子短到几乎没有的泰迪熊，还有一头象宝宝。

There were dolls and the funniest little toy clown you ever saw.

这里有一个洋娃娃和你曾见过的最有趣的小丑。

But that was not all. Some cars were filled with good things for boys and girls to eat- and lollipops for after meal treats.

但这还不是全部呢。一些车厢里载满了给男孩们、女孩们零食——留在饭后吃的棒棒糖。

The little train was carrying all these wonderful things to the little boys and girls on the other side of the mountain.

小火车正要把这里超棒的东西，运送给山那边的小男孩和小女孩们。

She puffed along merrily. Then all of a sudden she stopped. She simply could not go another inch. Her wheels would not turn!

她愉快地行驶着。突然，列车猛地停了下来，几乎一下也动不了了。她的轮子停止转动了！

“Here comes a shiny new engine,” said the little clown who jumped out of the train. “Please, Shiny New Engine, won’t you pull our train over the mountain?

“来了一辆闪闪发亮的新型火车头，”小丑跳出了列车，“拜托了，闪闪发亮的新火车头，你会把我们的列车带到山那边吗？

Our engine has broken down, and the boys and girls on the other side won’t have any toys to play with or good food to eat unless you help us.”

我们的火车头坏掉了，除非你帮忙，不然山那边的男孩和女孩们，就没有任何好玩的玩具和美味的零食了。”

But the Shiny New Engine snorted: “I pull you? I am a Passenger Engine. My train has sleeping cars and a dining car with waiters. I pull the likes of you? Indeed not.” And off he steamed.

但是闪闪发亮的新型火车头轻蔑地哼了一声：“我推你？我可是载客的火车，我的火车上有卧铺车厢和一辆配有服务员的餐车。让我推像你这样的家伙？绝不。”说着他关掉了蒸汽阀。

Soon the little clown called out, “Look! A great big strong engine is coming.”

很快，小丑又跳出来喊道，“看！一个功能强劲的火车头正开过来。”

“Please, Big Engine,” cried all the dolls and toys. “Won’t you pull our train over the mountain?”

“帮帮我，大火车头，”所有的玩偶和玩具都一起喊道，“你能帮忙把我们的列车推到山那边吗？”

“ I have just pulled a train with big heavy machines. I am a very important engine indeed. I won’t pull the likes of you!” And the big engine puffed off.

“我刚刚推了一辆装满沉重机器的列车。我可是非常重要的运货列车，我才不会推像你这样的家伙。”大火车头呼哧呼哧地开走了。

The little train and all the dolls and toys were very sad. “The Big Engine is not the only one in the world,” cried the little toy clown. “Here comes another. He looks very old and tired but our train is so little, perhaps he can help us.”

小火车和所有的玩偶和玩具都很难过。“这个世界上又不是只有运货列车，”小丑又喊道，“看，又来了一个。他看起来破旧而疲惫，但是我们的列车这么小，他应该会帮忙吧。”

But the Rusty Old Engine sighed: “ I am so tired. I must rest my weary wheels. I cannot pull eve so little a train as yours over the mountain. I can not. I can not. I can not.” And off he rumbled.

可锈迹斑斑的老火车头叹息了一声：“我累坏了，必须网我的轮子歇一歇。就连你们这么小的列车，我也没法推到山那边去。我做不到，做不到。”说着也熄了火。

By now the dolls and toys were ready to cry. But the little clown said, “Here comes a little blue engine, a very little one, maybe she will help us.”

此时，玩偶和玩具们都要哭了。但是小丑又说道：“来了一辆蓝色的迷你火车头，非常小的，她应该会帮我们。”

The very little engine came chug, chugging merrily along.

迷你火车头恰克恰克地开过来了。

“What is the matter, my friends?” she asked kindly. “Will you pull us over the mountain?” cried the dolls and toys. “Our engine has broken down and the good boys and girls on the other side won’t have any toys to play with or good food to eat unless you help us.”

“你们遇到什么麻烦了，我的朋友们？”她友好地打招呼。“你能把我们推到山那边去吗？”玩偶和玩具们齐声回答。“我们的火车头坏了，除非你帮忙，不然山那边的男孩和女孩们就没有任何好玩的玩具和美味的零食了。”

“I am not very big. I have never been over the mountain. But I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.” And the Little Blue Engine hitched herself to the train. She tugged and pulled and pulled and tugged and slowly, slowly, slowly they started off.

“我个头不是很大，也从未去过那座山，但我想我能做到。我认为我能。我认为我能。”蓝色的迷你小火车头把自己搭在了列车上。她拖啊，拽啊，拉啊，慢慢地，慢慢地，火车开始动了。

Puff, puff, chug, chug, went the Little Blue Engine. “ I think I can-I think I can-I think I ca-I think I can.” Up, up,up. Faster and faster the little engine climbed, until at last they reached the top of the mountain.

轧轧，轧轧。呜呜，呜呜。小火车发动了。“我认为我能，我认为我能，我认为我能。”向上，向上，向上，迷你火车头越爬越快，直到最终到达山顶。

“Hurray, hurray,” cried the little clown and all the dolls and toys. “The good little boys and girls in the city will be happy because you helped us!”

“万岁，万岁，”小丑和玩偶和玩具们都齐声欢呼。“因为你的帮忙，这里的男孩和女孩们都会变得开心。”

And the Little Blue Engine smiled and seemed to say as she puffed and steadily down the mountain, “ I thought I could, I thought I could, I thought I could.”
