外教读睡前故事 | The Legend of Geoffrey 杰菲奇遇记 ②

《 The Legend of Geoffrey》在昨天故事的结尾，长颈鹿杰菲离开丛林和朋友们，开始寻找关于身上星星花纹的秘密。他乘船来到了世界上最繁华的大都市之一纽约，并在新朋友布丁的指引下，进入了全世界最棒的玩具店“玩具反‘斗’城”。

今天的故事也是亮点多多：杰菲和布丁是怎么认识的？他们为什么要去玩具店寻找星星？在那里会有什么奇遇呢？小朋友们，快到今天的故事中来寻找答案吧~

After many days and nights sailing across the sea, the ship docked in New York City.

在海上颠簸了几天之后，船终于停靠在纽约港口。

Geoffrey got a bite to eat and took a good look around at the buildings and strange little creatures. He started to feel lost and far from home.

杰菲来到城市里，到处都是高楼大厦，他吃了点东西，开始有点想念他的朋友们。

He thought about Maya and the lions who told him about the legend—the legend that said he should follow the stars.

But which stars?! 

要到哪里去找星星呢？

Should he follow the stars on Broadway? No, these were probably not the right stars.

是百老汇歌舞剧的明星吗？应该不是。

That gigantic spinning star seemed to be calling his name! But it just made him dizzy.

那是游乐园里的飞椅吗？它长得很像星星。应该也不是，它只会不停地转，杰菲都转晕了。

Maybe he needed to get even closer to the night sky to find his way? But not that close.

又或许他得离夜空更近一些，但他登上了最高的楼顶，还是够不着。

Or maybe he would be better off figuring this out with his feet on the ground.

杰菲在来来往往的人群中继续寻找星星。还有哪里能找到星星呢？

He was trying to decide which way he should go when . . . . . . he spied a monkey on the street who reminded him of Maya.

杰菲正想着要往哪里走...突然看到一只毛绒玩具小猴子，他想起他的小伙伴玛雅。

Geoffrey lifted the worn little stuffed animal.

杰菲捡起这只破旧的猴子。

As he did, the monkey magically came to life!

这时神奇的事发生了，小猴子突然开口说话了：“你是谁？”

"Who are you?" demanded the scrappy stuffed animal. "Where is Lulu?"

小猴子迷迷糊糊地问道：“露露去哪了？”

"Umm . . . that way?" Geoffrey pointed at the pedicab up ahead, where they could just see the red pom-pom on a little girl’s pink hat.

“嗯...那儿吗？”杰菲指着前方的三轮车，车上坐着一个戴粉红色帽子的小女孩，帽子上有一个红色绒线球。

He and the monkey jumped in a taxi and pointed the way.

杰菲和小猴子跳上出租车追了上去，

But there were so many cars that soon they couldn’t see the red pom-pom or any sign of Lulu at all, so they hopped out . . .

但是路上车太多，一会儿他们就看不到露露了。他们只好下车了。

. . . and sat down on the sidewalk.

他们坐在路边。

"Thank you," said the monkey. "My name is Patches, by the way."

“谢谢你，”小猴子说，“我叫布丁。”

"I'm Geoffrey," he replied, taking the monkey’s paw in his hoof.

“我的杰菲。”他们握了握手。

"How did you do that magic thing?" Patches wanted to know.

"Magic thing?" asked Geoffrey.

"You know, I could never talk or do anything else . . . until you picked me up."

“你有魔法？”布丁问道，“我之前不能说话，也不能动。”

"Seriously?"

“真的？”

"If you don’t believe me, let’s see if your magic works on them,"  Patches suggested, pointing at the store window filled with stuffed animals.

“不信的话，在他们身上试试吧。”布丁指向旁边商店橱窗中的毛绒小动物。

So Geoffrey ducked through a big glass door into the most amazing place he had ever seen.

那是什么地方？杰菲走进那家商店，发现里面全是玩具！

"It’s Toys"R"Us, the world’s greatest toy store," whispered Patches.

“这里是玩具反‘斗’城，全世界最棒的玩具店。”布丁轻声的说。

There were toy trucks and trains, robots and rockets, tents and playhouses. And best of all, there were zebras and elephants and all of the other animals he grew up with.

这里有玩具火车、大货车、机器人、火箭、帐篷，还有玩具房子。最棒的是还有长颈鹿、大象和其它动物。

Patches said, "OK, Geoffrey—now try your magic!"

布丁说：“你现在可以试试你的魔法了！”

Geoffrey’s eyes lit up. His stars began to shimmer as he ran through the store and, with the slightest tap of a hoof, brought the toys to life.

杰菲身上的星星闪闪发光，他兴奋地跑遍整个玩具店，轻轻地拍了拍每个玩具。

A very serious chess piece, the Queen, took it all in—the scooters scooting, toy trains tooting, and superheroes soaring overhead.

摩托车轻快地跑起来，玩具火车发出嘟嘟声，超级英雄们在头顶飞来飞去。

"It’s our birthday!" she announced to Geoffrey.

“今天是我们的生日！”玩具们欢呼道。

"What’s a birthday?" he asked.

“生日是什么？”杰菲问。

"A birthday is the day you are born. And today is the day you brought us all to life!"  Well, if the Queen said so, thought Geoffrey, it must be true.

“生日就是你被赋予生命的那一天。因为你的魔法，我们从此有了生命！”

That night, the toys had the most awesome birthday party ever.

晚上他们在玩具反“斗”城里过了最棒的生日派对。
