《The Story of the Three Bears 三只小熊的故事（上）》熊宝宝一家三口幸福地生活着。屋子里的每一样东西都井井有条，熊宝宝个头小，用的东西也都是最小的；熊妈妈中等身材，用的东西也大一些；熊爸爸很高大，用的东西都是最大的。一天早上，一家三口出门散步，却没想到，此时一个人正偷偷溜进他们的房子。

这是一个耳熟能详的童话故事，我们的外教也演绎过多个不同的版本。故事通过大量生活细节的对比和重复，建立孩子们对于“大小”这一重要概念的理解，是非常优秀的英语启蒙读物。

ONCE upon a time there were Three Bears, who lived together in a house of their own, in a wood.

从前，一间小木屋里住着熊宝宝一家三口。

One of them was a Little, Small, Wee Bear;

熊宝宝模样小小的，很可爱；

and one was a Middle-sized Bear,

熊妈妈中等个头，很温柔；

and the other was a Great, Huge Bear.

熊爸爸身材高大，很威武。

They each had a pot for their porridge, a little pot for the Little, Small, Wee Bear, and a middle-sized pot for the Middle Bear, and a great pot for the Great, Huge Bear.

每头熊都有自己盛粥的碗。小碗是给熊宝宝的，稍大一点的碗是熊妈妈的，最大的碗当然是熊爸爸的。

And they each had a chair to sit in; a little chair for the Little, Small, Wee Bear; and a middle-sized chair for the Middle Bear; and a great chair for the Great, Huge Bear.

每头熊都有一把专属椅子。小号椅子属于熊宝宝，稍大一点的椅子属于熊妈妈，最大的椅子当然是熊爸爸的。

And they each had a bed to sleep in; a little bed for the Little, Small, Wee Bear; and a middle-sized bed for the Middle Bear; and a great bed for the Great, Huge Bear.

每头熊在不同的床上睡觉。熊宝宝睡在小床上，熊妈妈睡在稍大一点的床上，熊爸爸当然睡在最大的床上。

One day, after they had made the porridge for their breakfast, and poured it into their porridge-pots, they walked out into the wood while the porridge was cooling, so that they might not burn their mouths, by beginning too soon to eat it.

一天早上，等粥做好以后，熊妈妈把它盛到各自的碗里，准备放凉一点再吃，以免烫到嘴。趁着这会功夫，熊宝宝一家到森林里散散步。

And while they were walking, a little old Woman came to the house.

当他们散步的时候，一个瘦小的老妇人来到了这间屋子。

She could not have been a good, honest old Woman; for first she looked in at the window, and then she peeked in at the keyhole; and seeing nobody in the house, she lifted the latch.

她可不是个善良诚实的老妇人。她先趴在窗户那儿瞄了瞄，然后顺着钥匙孔往里偷看，发现屋里没人，她就把门闩提了起来。

The door was not fastened, because the Bears were good Bears, who did nobody any harm, and never suspected that anybody would harm them.

门没有锁上，因为熊宝宝一家都很善良，从没伤害过任何人，也没有怀疑过任何人会伤害自己。

So the little old Woman opened the door, and went in; and well pleased she was when she saw the porridge on the table.

老妇人打开了门，走了进去，当她看到桌子上的粥，非常高兴。

If she had been a good little old Woman, she would have waited till the Bears came home, and then, perhaps, they would have asked her to breakfast;

如果她是一个善良的人，也许会等到熊宝宝一家回来。接下来，或许她还会被邀请一起吃早餐。

For they were good Bears--a little rough, perhaps, as the manner of Bears is, but for all that very good-natured and hospitable.

因为熊尽管看起来凶猛，但他们都天性善良，而且非常好客。

But she was an impudent, bad old Woman, and set about helping herself.

但这是个厚脸皮的坏老太婆，她一点都不客气地吃了起来。

So first she tasted the porridge of the Great, Huge Bear, and that was too hot; and she said a bad word about that.

一开始，她先尝了尝熊爸爸的那碗粥，但喝起来太烫了，她凶巴巴地抱怨了一句。

And then she tasted the porridge of the Middle Bear, and that was too cold for her; and she said a bad word about that, too.

接下来她又尝了熊妈妈的那碗粥，但喝起来太凉了，她又凶巴巴地抱怨了一句。

And then she went to the porridge of the Little, Small, Wee Bear, and tasted that; and that was neither too hot nor too cold, but just right;

然后她又去尝了熊宝宝的那碗粥，喝起来正好，不凉也不热。

 and she liked it so well that she ate it all up: but the old Woman said a bad word about the little porridge-pot, because it did not hold enough for her.

老妇人对这碗粥非常满意，一口气喝了精光。可她接下来还是凶巴巴地抱怨了一句，因为这碗粥的分量太少了，不够她吃的。

Then the little old Woman sat down in the chair of the Great, Huge Bear, and that was too hard for her.

吃完了，老妇人坐到了熊爸爸的大椅子上，觉得太硬了。

And then she sat down in the chair of the Middle Bear, and that was too soft for her.

她又坐到了熊妈妈稍小的椅子上，觉得太软了。

And then she sat down in the chair of the Little, Small, Wee Bear, and that was neither too hard, nor too soft, but just right.

她又坐到了熊宝宝最小的椅子上，这个不软不硬，刚刚好。

So she seated herself on it, and there she sat till the bottom of the chair came out, and down she came, plump, upon the ground. And the naughty old Woman said something bad about that chair.

她舒服地坐了上去。一直坐在那儿，直到椅子的底板脱落，把她扑通一声摔在地上。于是这个没规矩的老太婆又抱怨了一通。

Then the little old Woman went upstairs into the bed-chamber in which the three Bears slept.

然后老妇人来到楼上的卧室里，这是熊宝宝一家睡觉的地方。

 At first she lay down upon the bed of the Great, Huge Bear; but that was too high at the head for her.

她先躺到了熊爸爸的大床上，但脑袋的位置太高了。

 And next she lay down upon the bed of the Middle Bear, and that was too high at the foot for her.

她又躺到了熊妈妈稍小一点的床上，但脚的位置太高了。

And then she lay down upon the bed of the Little, Small, Wee Bear, and that was not too high at the head nor at the foot, but just right.

最后她躺到了熊宝宝最小的床上，脑袋和脚的位置都刚刚好，非常合适。

So she covered herself up comfortably, and lay there till she fell fast asleep.

所以她舒服地钻进了被窝，很快就睡着了。
